You build a life together, establish routines, make plans, raise children, share responsibilities and somewhere along the way, being part of a couple becomes part of who you are.

Then one day, everything looks different.

Perhaps you've come home to an empty house. Maybe you're sleeping in a spare room while you work out who moves out, who keeps what and how on earth you're going to explain it to the kids. Or perhaps you've been separated for months, everyone assumes you're doing fine, but the truth is you're still trying to get your head around what happened.

And even when you know the relationship wasn't working, that doesn't necessarily make the ending any easier.

IT'S NOT JUST THE RELATIONSHIP YOU'RE LOSING.

When a relationship ends, it's rarely just about losing a partner. Sometimes you're losing the home you helped build, the family routines you loved, the friendships you shared and the future you thought you were heading towards.

There can be anger, guilt, resentment, relief, loneliness and moments when you miss someone you know you probably shouldn't be with anymore. Sometimes all of those feelings turn up in the same bloody afternoon.

Then there's the practical side. Finances, property, parenting arrangements, lawyers, moving house and learning how to manage a life that used to involve two people.

And somewhere amongst all of that, you're expected to get up, go to work, function normally and answer, "Yeah, I'm good, mate," when someone asks how you're going.

I've spoken with men who are devastated by the end of their relationship, men who are relieved it's over and men who don't even know how they feel yet. There's no single way a man is supposed to experience separation.

But there is something I think deserves more attention.

When you've spent years being somebody's husband or partner, it can take time to remember who you are outside that relationship.

BEFORE YOU WORK OUT WHAT'S NEXT, LET'S TALK ABOUT WHAT'S HAPPENED.

One of the things I see is how quickly men can feel pressured to move on. Friends tell you to get back out there, download a dating app, find someone new or enjoy being single.

And perhaps one day you will.

But if you're still carrying anger from your last relationship, questioning your self-worth or replaying every argument trying to understand where things went wrong, jumping straight into another relationship might not give you the fresh start you're hoping for.

I think there's value in giving yourself some time to understand what happened. Not to spend the rest of your life analysing your ex, but to look at the relationship honestly, recognise your own patterns and decide what you want to do differently moving forward.

That includes taking responsibility for your part without automatically taking responsibility for everything.

It also means recognising that the end of a relationship doesn't mean you've failed as a man.

SO, WHO ARE YOU NOW?

This is where Suddenly Single becomes about more than getting through a breakup.

Perhaps you've spent twenty years making decisions as part of a couple and now you're making them alone. Maybe you've forgotten what you enjoy doing for yourself. Your confidence has taken a hit, your social circle has changed or you're wondering whether you'll ever feel comfortable dating again.

And for some men, being single isn't the hardest part. It's the silence when they get home, the weekends without the kids, or the realisation that the person they used to tell everything to is no longer the person they can call.

We're not going to pretend those things don't hurt.

But we're also not going to spend every session looking backwards.

I want to help you understand where you are now, what matters to you, what you want from your relationships and what kind of life you'd like to build from here.

Because being suddenly single doesn't mean you have to stay stuck in the circumstances that brought you here.

You may not have chosen this chapter, but you still have a say in how you live it.

HOW WE CAN WORK TOGETHER

Suddenly Single is private, one-to-one support for men navigating separation, divorce, relationship breakdown or life after a long-term partnership.

You don't need to have all the answers, and you certainly don't need to have worked out what you're feeling before you arrive.

We can begin with one conversation. Perhaps there's something that's happened recently and you simply need somewhere to talk it through, understand your reactions or work out your next step.

For men who want more time to work through the changes, I also offer a personalised six-week program. This gives us the opportunity to explore what's happened, identify patterns, work on communication and confidence, establish practical strategies and begin building a clearer sense of direction.

We'll work at a pace that suits you, with the focus shaped around your circumstances rather than a one-size-fits-all formula.

This isn't about teaching you how to win your ex back, blaming either person for the relationship ending or rushing you into another one.

It's about helping you move through a difficult transition without losing yourself along the way.

THE NEXT CHAPTER IS STILL YOURS.

I can't change what's happened in your relationship, and I can't promise the next few months will be easy.

But I can offer you somewhere to have an honest conversation, look at things from a different perspective and begin working out what comes next.

You don't need to pretend you're fine, and you don't need to have a plan for the rest of your life.

We can start with where you are today.

Because a relationship ending is a change in your life. It doesn't have to become the definition of your life.
