Recovery Doesn't End When Treatment Finishes
Whether you've undergone treatment for prostate cancer or surgery for an enlarged prostate, everything becomes about getting through the treatment and recovering physically.
The surgery.
The radiation.
The appointments.
The scans.
The PSA results.
Everyone is focused on getting you through it. And rightly so.
Then one day...
The treatment finishes.
People congratulate you.
You're told you're doing well and how lucky you are.
Off you go...
Back to life.
Back to work.
Back to your relationship.
Back to picking up where you left off.
Only sometimes...
Life doesn't quite go back the way you hoped it would.
Maybe you've noticed changes in your erections.
Maybe you're experiencing urinary leakage.
Maybe intimacy with your partner no longer feels possible.
Maybe things simply don't feel the same anymore.
Or maybe...
You don't feel the same about yourself anymore.
You start questioning things.
"Will this ever improve?"
"Will my partner still want me?"
"Is this just how life is now?"
If you've ever found yourself asking those questions...
You're not alone.
They're far more common than most men realise.
It's About More Than Your Prostate
One thing I've learnt over the years is that prostate cancer doesn't just affect the prostate.
It can affect how a man sees himself.
His confidence.
His relationships.
His intimacy.
His identity.
Many men tell me they don't quite feel like themselves anymore.
Some worry about disappointing their partner.
Some stop initiating intimacy altogether because they're afraid of what might happen.
Others are simply trying to work out what their "new normal" looks like.
Recovery isn't only about healing physically.
It's about rebuilding confidence in yourself again.
That's Why This Session Exists
Post-Prostate Recovery isn't about trying to make you the man you were before treatment.
It's about helping you move forward with confidence in the man you are today.
Every appointment is tailored to where you're at in your own recovery.
For some men that's releasing pelvic tension.
For others it's learning how to calm a nervous system that's been running on high alert.
Sometimes it's understanding why your body feels different, responds differently.
Sometimes it's talking through the emotional side of recovery that nobody prepared you for.
Most often...
It's a combination of all of those things.
What Happens During Your Appointment?
We'll start with a conversation.
Not an interrogation.
Just a chance for me to understand what's been happening for you.
We'll talk about your treatment, how your recovery has been, what's changed and what you'd like to achieve moving forward.
From there, your session is tailored specifically to you.
Depending on your individual needs, treatment may incorporate:
- Therapeutic pelvic massage
- External pelvic floor and surrounding muscle release
- Nervous system down-regulation
- Diaphragmatic breathing
- Somatic grounding techniques
- Psychosexual rehabilitation
- Body confidence support
- Education around intimacy following treatment
- Practical strategies for rebuilding confidence with your partner
No two men recover the same way.
So no two appointments are exactly the same.
Is This Session Right For You?
This session may be suitable if you've:
- Undergone a radical prostatectomy.
- Completed radiation therapy for prostate cancer.
- Noticed changes in erectile function following treatment.
- Experienced urinary leakage or pelvic tension.
- Lost confidence in your body or sexual function.
- Avoided intimacy because you're unsure what to expect.
- Felt disconnected from your partner since treatment.
- Wondered if what you're experiencing is "normal."
- Been looking for someone who understands that recovery is about far more than the physical side of things.
Recovery Is A Team Effort
One thing I firmly believe is that recovery works best when the right people are supporting you.
As a qualified Psychosexual Therapist, my role is to support the emotional, psychological and intimate aspects of your recovery while using therapeutic techniques designed to help reduce tension, improve body awareness and rebuild confidence.
Where appropriate, I may also encourage you to continue working alongside your GP, urologist, radiation oncologist or other members of your healthcare team so every part of your recovery is supported.
Because recovery is rarely about one thing.
It's about the whole picture.
Why Viktor?
Talking about intimacy after prostate cancer can feel incredibly confronting.
You may not want to burden your partner.
You may not know how to explain what you're feeling.
You may simply want someone who understands without judgement.
That's exactly why Viktor exists.
Every appointment is delivered personally by Marissa (Miss M), a qualified Psychosexual Therapist who has spent more than five years supporting men experiencing changes in sexual confidence, intimacy and erectile function.
Appointments are private.
Never rushed.
Professional.
Respectful.
Completely confidential.
Most importantly...
You'll never have to pretend everything is okay when it isn't.
You Don't Have To Navigate This Alone
One of the hardest parts of prostate cancer recovery is believing you should simply "get on with it."
You don't have to.
Whether you're still recovering physically, rebuilding confidence, learning to trust your body again or simply looking for someone who understands what you're going through, this session provides a safe place to begin.
Because surviving prostate cancer is one chapter.
Feeling like yourself again is the next.
